Start Time: 8:00 am
We will gather in the west end of the McDonalds parking lot.
Announcing the first ever joint drive with the Mustang Wranglers car club (a very active group of car enthusiasts). Plans are in the works for a May 2nd Drive-Out featuring a drive to Rockaway, Oregon and a train ride pulled by a steam engine.
We will stop for breakfast at Camp 18, then take a drive through some twisty bits (once we are off US 26) on Oregon Hwy. 53, then on to Miami Foley Road where we will then meet up with US 101 and drive north to Rockaway. There we hop on a train for a nostalgic 2 1/2 hour “Spring Splendor Excursion” round trip ride on the Oregon Coast Scenic Railroad (OCSR). The excursion will depart from the OCSR station at Rockaway where we will travel north to Wheeler and return to Rockaway. (Note: There is usually plenty of parking at the Rockaway station.) The ride departs at 11 AM and returns at 1:15 PM, so we want to arrive at the Rockaway Station with time to spare. This trip will feature the OCSR steam locomotive. Of special note, there is also a fully enclosed (and very comfortable) 1950’s vintage Table Car with seating for two or four per table. The table car ticket cost is quite reasonable at just shy of $34.00/person (with tax). Book early! You don’t want to miss the fun. Here is the link to book your choice of cars for the trip: https://oregoncoastscenic.org/train-rides/spring-splendor-excursion/
PLEASE NOTE: Weather is always a question mark at the coast, so “daily drivers” are welcome if you don’t want to bring your collector/favorite car if the forecast is for adverse/rainy weather. 9A quick look at recent historical weather data for the north Oregon coast shows that foggy/overcast weather is more likely than light rain.)
Current plans are to finish up with lunch at the Pelican Pub in Pacific City.
We hope to see you on this limited availability (and very scenic) nostalgic train ride, so sign up and buy your tickets early.
